Discipline

Students are expected to be diligent in carrying out school obligations. Failure to do so means that a student is guilty of misconduct. Students will be given every opportunity to achieve scholastic success, but those who persist in creating behavioral problems will be subject to disciplinary action. Offenses are classified as minor, major, or critical. Teachers will provide appropriate consequences for classroom misbehavior. Violations of major and critical offfenses will result in referrals to the office for disciplinary action and the possible consequences of in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, corporal punishment, alternative school, or expulsion.

Minor Violations:

Horseplay, verbal exchanges, disrespect to classmates, excessive talking, throwing objects in class, pencil popping, spit balls, hall disruptions, name calling, gum chewing, possession of hats, sunglasses, radios, electronic games, trading items, and other toys, inappropriate cafeteria behavior, displays of public affection

"Violations" are recorded on a point system. Six points earned by a student = 1 day in ISS.

Major Violations:

Continuous minor violations, defiance of authority, fighting, encouraging or provoking a fight, obscenity, forgery, indecency, leaving campus without permission, possession of tobacco related products, stealing, willful or dangerous acts, gambling, vandalism, selling items

Critical Violations:

Possession or use of a deadly weapon, verbal threats or physical assault or battery on staff, or possession, sale, or transfer of drugs and alcohol.
