CHS Chess Team Wins Regional-State Tournament Bound

The Clarkrange High School Chess Team recently competed in the Regional Team Competitionon Signal Mountain, winning its Eighthregional Championship in the past 11 years. At the region level the top four teams advance to state competition out of the 23 county area. Advancing were Clarkrange, Stone Memorial High School, McCallie High School, and Notre Dame High School.

At the State Level, teams will be competing for $104,000.00 in scholarship money. The state team champions will split $64,000.00 in Scholarships between their four-man team, while the state Runner-up will split $40,000.00. The State competition is co-sponsored by the Tennessee Chess Association, the United States Chess Federation and Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville.

The CHS squad is Anchored by senior Ryan Hunley on Board #1. The rest of the line-up includes Michael Davis-Board #2, Henry Ross- Board #3, Seth Grawcock- Board #4, and Jess Conatser and Austin Lillis as Alternates.
