We want to commend you for having the courage to take that first step to change your life. We hope your experience in our classes will be positive and will help you accomplish the educational goals you have set for yourself.
The GED instructors are certified teachers with knowledge of the requirements necessary to pass the GED exam. The time it takes you to achieve your goal may vary depending on your prior knowledge and skills in the areas of study, your participation and attendance in class, your motivation to succeed, and the amount of time you can devote to your studies.
This handbook contains information that may be helpful to your as you progres s through your class. As always, we would like to encourage you to continue your education after you have complted your GED exam. The higher educational facilites in our area are listed in this handbook. In addition, your instructor has current class schedules offered by these facilities.
Our staff would like to support you in continuing your education. If you would like to discuss any problems you may be having, your progress, or your plans for continuing your education, feel free to contact your instructor or call the Adult Education office at 879-3802.

GUIDELINES FOR ALL CLASS LOCATIONS
• The Fentress County Adult Education Program is a voluntary program for adults who are willing to complete assignments requested by the teacher. Participants who do not comply or disrupt class will be removed from the roll.
• GED classes will follow the county schools schedule for holidays and snow days. (See school calendar.)
• Any student enrolled in Adult Education classes must be 18 years or older.
• Classes are for enrolled students only. Guests and/or children are not permitted to visit class.
• You will be asked to sign in for each class. Please locate the sign in sheet upon entering the class.
• Please bring pencils, paper, and books to class with you.
• Books will be checked out to you for use while you are actively attending class. All books must be returned to the teacher when you complete your study or stop attend- ing class.
• You are expected to respect the building, grounds, and any equipment used. Please stay only in the assigned classroom or area designated by the teacher.
• Cell phones or beepers may be used outside the building during breaks but must be turned off during class time.
• Suggestive or revealing clothing, and clothing or other personal property with offen- sive language, logos, or slogans that advertise alcholic beverages, tobacco products, gang activity, or drugs are not acceptable. All undergarments must be completely covered by clothing. Good personal hygiene is expected at all times.
• Weapons must not be brought on the grounds of the campus. Drug or alcohol use, possession, or selling will mean immediate expulsion. Personal and/or car searches can be conducted by the police at any time just as is true for all other county schools.
• Sexual harrassment activity will not be tolerated. Harassment is defined as conduct, advances, gestures, or words of a sexual nature. Any such incident must be immedi ately reported to the teacher.

Testing Centers recommend taking the official Practice GED before scheduling an appointment. An application and demographic form must be completed before scheduling a test date. See your teacher for details.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age, be a resident of Tennessee, and pay the appropriate fee at the selected testing site. You will be asked to provide documents which will verify social security number, age, and state of residence. Please ask your testing center what documents you need to bring with you.
An individual may test three times during any one contract year. An individual may retest after a 30 day waiting period. The testing centers charge $55.00 for the complete exam. A charge of $11.00 for every re-test portion of the test. Cash or money order only is accepted.
To receive a GED diploma, you will be required to score an average standard score of 450 on the total test (total standard score of 2250) with no score below 410 on any of the five tests.
If the original diploma is lost, a duplicate diploma may be obtained by contacting the test center where the exam was administered or calling 1-800-62-MY GED.
