The history of Allardt School dates back to 1883, when the first German settlers erected a one-room schoolhouse. The school day was long beginning at 8 o'clock in the morning and lasted until 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The students assisted the teacher in building fires to heat the building and carrying drinking water from a local well.

In 1910 the schoolhouse was replaced by a similar structure near the site of the original school. This was also a one-room building and served the community until the need for additional space was required.

By 1923 Allardt School was a three-teacher school. Local citizens had underwritten the cost of building a four-classroom school, which also included a library and auditorium.

Allardt School continued to grow and serve the parents and students of the Allardt community. In 1971 an addition was opened to the present facility, which included an additional 12 classrooms, a new library, and a kitchen.

Additional rooms were added to the school as the years passed and space was needed to house the growing student population.

In the spring of 1996, a tornado did extensive damage to the school. The Fentress County School Board worked with the community and a beautiful new school was designed and built near the site of the existing structure.

The new school was completed and began operation in April 1999 and will serve the community for many years to come
